WHAT IF

What If?

I always thought that when it came,

I’d be ready for the end.

By that time I’d be resigned and tame,

Death would appear a welcome friend.

But what if I still want to live,

Still want to learn and grow?

What if I still have gifts to give,

And I’m not yet ready to go?

What if I’m too young still,

Not old enough to die?

What if I want to wait until

I’ve experienced life

Before I say

…GOODBYE...

NO ME LO DAS

No Me Lo Das

Callate! Pa’ que

No dejas caer mentiras
                 de la boca anchada

Y no moscas
                 pueden entrar la cerrada.

No me lo das tu corazon,
                amarillo como un limon.

Me prestas tu atencion,
                 tengo hambre como un leon.

No me lo das tu promesa a mi,
vacio como los ojos de ti.

No dejas caer mentiras
                de las bocas abiertas,

Y digame las palabras
                lo que son las ciertas.

CHRISTMAS 2009

CHRISTMAS

Christmas Alone
And miles from home
Cold hearth and empty sleigh
Nor shall my beloveds
Pass this way.

RESUME by Dorothy Parker, (1893-1967)

RESUME --- 1926
by Dorothy Parker (1893-1967)

Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

Comment: An example of rhythm, using consistent end-stops, monosyllabism, and uses Trochaic ( RAzors PAIN you... ) meter rather than Iambic (which is more common as it more closely resembles natural speech) Note all lines are 4 syllables, except 6 and 8, which are 3 and 5, respectively. As a rhythmic dance, such as salsa, is still salsa with an extra step or kick, the rhythm of the poem is maintained even though the author did not follow the meter consistently, while maintaining the rhythm, as well as short dimeter (two foot) lines throughout.

YOUR PRIDE

You choke on Your Pride
    and spit bone
    straight through to my Heart.

You stand on Your Ground
     and I've known
     blood ran from the Start.

ONE THOUSAND FEET

ONE THOUSAND FEET
by Kimmarie Rojas

JOE: The Addict
JUDGE: The Regulator and Lawmaker
JURY: The Peers

JOE:
“For one thousand feet, they spread the plague
With rules and tools and laws that are vague.
The fall to death is quick and steep
With no help within one thousand feet.”

JUDGE:
“An imperfect destiny is what’s in the rig,
And it may be too late for you to renege,
But within that space the Reaper is home,
where death is by alphabet, HCV, HIV,
     Auto Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

JURY:
“A light to those who rightly believe
That harm reduction can relieve
Disease and death through a simple exchange
From dirty to clean and the count is the same.
For twenty one years the federal laws stayed
To ban program funding of needle exchange,
And yes they will lift it, but in the fine print it
Reads “make them stay at one thousand feet!”

JUDGE“One thousand feet? That’s not so far -
Just like the porn shop or biker bar!
Not near the school nor near the park,
Away from our youth, over there in the dark!
They don’t need to see a line over there
Of junkies who need to sharpen their ware.”

JURY:
“Though some disagree say that one thousand feet
Is an impossible restriction on a metro street.
A divided nation, no one can agree
Demagogues and demi-gods, elected imperfectly
Our leaders and rulers have their own destiny,
     of judgment and justice, imperfectly."

JOE:
“For one thousand feet, they spread the plague
With rules and tools and laws that are vague.
For one thousand feet, a sick addict must crawl
In order to safely alleviate withdrawal.”

JURY:"Progress moves slow and the War is long,
And after One Hundred years it’s been proved wrong
Again and again, that more harm than good
Comes from laws of what shouldn’t
      and laws of what should."

A compromise please of one thousand feet,
As these are our laws, imperfectly.

MY LEFT FOOT, PART V

My Left Foot
PART V

I could not hide my disappointment when the x-ray tech made the comment,

Even though it was a long-shot deal --”These broken bones still need to heal.”

“It is healing”, the doctor’s nurse said. “It’s just taking time -- you need to stay in bed!.”

I replied "that’s easier said than done, when there’s things to do and I’m the only one."

But perhaps if I HAD remained prone, I may not still be alone.

Yet such would require to bind my hands and my feet, or to find

An attentive and potent man, to stay with me at my divan!

(Naturally, the latter would be a preferable fit, as I would certainly convince someone to loosen the straps a bit…)

Sintiendo la Voz (Feeling Your Voice)

Sintiendo la Voz
(Feeling your Voice)

Feeling your voice,

con mi cara por su pecho
y sus brazos alrededor de mi cuerpo,

hearing your kisses,

lo has inventado el beso,

tasting your sweetly addictive love,

como el chocolate que derrite en mi boca,

seeing your words,

que estabas contándome dulcemente,

and reveling in the sensual aroma

de su amor,
cuando me tocas como una guitarra,
con mi cara por su pecho
y sus brazos alrededor de mi cuerpo,
sintiendo la voz...

CREATIONAL THEOLOSOPHY

Creational Theolosophy
by K. Marie
Mariesrun

A sun explodes in a fiery blaze
And life begins in a sea of haze.
Stars and dust, dark and light
Supreme beings in blinding white.

The Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Are theories of the life we boast.
Simple minds cannot agree
On an evolution of the sea.

With fertile breath, planets name
And on the third, creatures came;
And when clans created tools,
They became Men the Fools…

Pondering again, again,
Which came first: egg or hen?
The answer though is plain to see
In a circle of eternity.

With microscope, atom dissect.
With telescope, universe protect.
Dichotomy in every cell
From farthest star to deepest well:

All of life is bi-dimensioned
One has started
What the other ended.

ESPERAMOS

Esperamos

I met him on a Saturday --
At a fest’val
Of food and play.

It wasn’t long ‘till he found me --
Upon a bench
Under a tree.

“Your beauty is,” he said to me --
“The prettiest
That I have seen.”

His sweet way soon pierced my heart --
And how it bleeds
When we’re apart.

“Be patient”, he did ask of me --
“My heart was broke
Just recently.”

And as I dream of he and me --
He is waiting
For he and she.

My hope for us it never ends --
Until the day
We’re more than friends,

But lovers too, beyond and more --
We’re free to be
Who we are.
